Restoring your Windows XP Data

What Data to Restore

With Windows XP, all personal data should be stored in C:\Home\[ user name ]\My Documents\. Files that were stored in C:\Home\Main\ on your Windows 2000 system should be copied to C:\Home\[ user name ]\My Documents when restoring data on XP.

Tip: If you restore everything in the folder C:\Home\[ user name ]\My Documents\, you will automatically restore your Eudora Pro mailboxes, address book and preferences, Netscape bookmarks and preferences, Firefox Sites and preferences, and your WS_FTP Pro sites and preferences.

Eudora Pro  
  all user files C:\Home\[ user name ]\My Documents\Mail
If you prefer to restore your mailboxes, address book and preferences separately:
  mailboxes

C:\Home\[ user name ]\My Documents\Mail\*.mbx

Note: You'll need to backup each of your mailbox files, eg, In.mbx, Out.mbx, and any other mailboxes you've created. Just be sure to restore all *.mbx files in C:\Home\[ user name ]\My Documents\Mail.

There may be other files you wish to restore, depending on what programs you use and where these programs save data.

How to Restore

To restore your files, use WS_FTP Pro to connect to your account.

In the right (Remote System) window of WS_FTP, navigate to the location of your "My Doccuments" folder.

Click once on the My Documents folder in the right window, and click the left pointing arrow.

If you have other files to restore (e.g., MS Office Dictionary): In the right (Remote System) window of WS_FTP, browse to the location of each file or directory you wish to back up. Then in the left (local System) window, navigate to the location where you would like the file to be. Once you find a file or directory to be restored, click on it once to highlight it, and then click the left pointing arrow to send a copy to your system.

When you have restored all the necessary files, close the connection, and click Exit.
