Scanning Images on Flatbed Scanners

Place document or photo face down on the glass and close the cover.

Open an image editing program, such as Fireworks or Photoshop. If using Fireworks, click File > Scan > Twain acquire... ( In Photoshop, click File > Import and select your flatbed scanner software).

This should bring up the scanning software and automatically scan a preview image. Select the area that you would like to scan.

You can make adjustments to the way the document is scanned in the scanning software. For a quick tutorial in scanning basics, see the Webmonkey article, Scanning 101. When you are happy with everything, click the arrow to return to Fireworks, or select Scan > Return to Fireworks.

The scanning software will close and your scanned image will be open in Fireworks. You can work with the image to make adjustments and then save the image in the desired format. See the tutorial on optimizing your image if you plan to use the image on the web or in a powerpoint presentation. If you are working in a lab, be sure to ftp your work to your account before logging off the computer.
