The New Digital Divide

In reading this article, I thought how is it possible that when I talk of twitter, facebook or the like I still am often greeted with blank stares and "that's for the kids" comments.

My next thought is that this is the next digital divide which will be defined between those that are already producing, using, and sharing content using social networking and those that will eventually. At that point, the first group will most likely have moved on to the next great thing. This divide is more nuanced than the last (or current depending on how ubiquitous home personal computers are). Perhaps it is not a new divide, but more a striation within the current.

Whatever it is what are the implications for us as technology professionals and educators?
