reCaptcha

I've enabled reCaptcha on this blog, to try to cut down on comment spam. At the same time I removed the need to sign in to post a comment. Until we see how well this works, I am not allowing any comments to get automatically published.

Let me know your thoughts!

Mike:

We've been using reCaptcha on the college website for over a year, first for the college's general comments form (which was getting KILLED with spam) and as of last week on every FormBuilder form, many of which were also getting hammered by spam.

I like reCAPTCHA because there they handle the work of processing and checking text entry, instead of the site being responsible for keeping the code up.

Finally, I like that the reCaptcha can be styled if you don't like the way it looks. Look at a FormBuilder form to see how you can integrate it into any look and feel.

Susan:

Mike, I saw that you were using reCaptcha in Formbuilder forms and that's what spurred me to take a closer look at it the other day. I generally don't like these things, but the spam has gotten crazy. And I do like that reCaptcha has the audio option for accessibility, as well as the added bonus that we're helping digitize books.

The goal is to roll this out to all current blogs on the system. I'm hoping we can get some student help with that because it requires editing a few templates on each blog and rebuilding each site. Once that's done we'll enable it by default for all new blogs.
