A while ago I posted about techNOcool: Flock - The Social Web Browser and Jason made this comment...
The browser is to now, what the OS was to the late nineties, which is something that used to be cool, but now is just tech. :) I remember being psyched about Windows95, but by the time Windows98 came out, people just wanted the damn thing to work so that they could get out to the internet.
I missed much of the practical nature/reality of what he was saying until I started to play with Netvibes. Netvibes allows users to create a page that allows you to bring in the various pieces of the web that you use regularly. Thus, now instead of needing to be on a computer with a browser that has all of the preferred plugins I only need a browser and my netvibes. My plugins are any where I am.
I have not figured out the universe - ecosystem thing yet but which I think is the key to making it "social" but that would be icing on the cake. Any one else with experience with netvibes? I would like to compare notes.
Hat tip to Jason...

You left out the part about when you repeated that quote back to me in one of our conversations, I commented about how insightful it was, and then you reminded me that I had in fact said it originally....
Jason = FAIL
I wonder why you're so enamored with Netvibes versus iGoogle/Google Web?

I signed up for Netvibes, but I'm finding myself just adding a bunch of Google widgets to it. Help me break my google addiction!

The Netvibes vs. iGoogle question is more about that I had tried iGoogle several different times and for whatever reason I never stuck with it. When I was at the NITLE summit one of the keynotes tied his work together through Netvibes and it made sense to me.
Ginger was released recently - and I upgraded from corriander - which makes the social networking (universes) more easier. (how do you like that grammar?)
I invite you to my universe - http://www.netvibes.com/jfadden
What is your take on it so far?

10 days out and Netvibes is making more and more sense as my online home. It easily ties my web services together and produces a public page. I like the from anywhere and the fact that I can bring in the best of the rest of the web through a web page widget.
The only problem I have had with netvibes is when I tried to add gmail as a web page on one of my tabs. I got in this crazy circle that kept pushing me to gmail. Eventually I was quick enough to delete the widget before I found myself at gmail again.
I also like that you can publish your own widgets so that as you need/want to share modules specific to you with others it is quick and easy without needing to know any coding. The wizard just asks how you want to share it and bam "it happens" The web is magic you know!
