Ever growing connectedness

Has anyone played with Twitter? I signed up recently, just to give it a whirl, and I may embed this on my own personal page. I'm not sure if it has any practical applications, but it just seems cool to me.

You can post exactly what you're doing, any time in the day, either from the twitter home page, through instant messenger, or via text message on your phone. You can also sign up to get notified when any of your friends post what they are doing. I'm going to try to embed a twitter link into the body of this post so you can see what I'm talking about, hopefully right here...

Susan:

I haven't played with Twitter but have read a bit about it. Most people say they go through a progession from "why the heck would I want to do this?" to "hey, this is kind of cool" to "help me. I can't stop".

When you get to that last stage we'll set up an intervention for you.

Personally, I never got by the why would I want to phase.

One blog that I follow would have regular posts from his twitter account. Eventually, he stopped because of privacy issues.

Yes - I did it. I played the privacy card. But maybe it is merely the coffee talking.

Discuss amongst yourselves...

Jason:

As far as privacy goes, I think Twitter is safer than coffee. :)

I'm not sure what the point of Twitter is, except that it extends the whole navel-gazing side of Web 2.0. How many ways can you report on the latest antics of your cat, or what the next boring thing you did is? (Or the constant reminder of how boring your life really is?)

I marvel more at how easy it was to get into. It also might inject more life into my personal blog. Every time I think about blogging, I feel like I need to say something profound. There are no expectations with Twitter. (Plus, it limits you to 150 characters, which I need badly!)

Brian:

One question. Are Twitter users known as Twits?
